BNEW aims to project the recovery of the world economy from Barcelona. It will feature 10 verticals, consolidating itself as the only major multisectoral international event. EIT Urban Mobility will actively participate organising two panel debates in the MOBILITY vertical.
Maria Tsvachidis, CEO of EIT Urban Mobility will lead the session “Are the cities innovating enough?” (6 October, 11.00 CET) where, together with a selected panel of mobility experts, she will discuss the mobility challenges cities are facing nowadays.
The following day, our Business Creation Manager, Matteo Consonni, will moderate the panel “Where are mobility investments going?”, where start-ups and investors will try to answer the question about how to enhance mobility and create public realms in cities.

Nowadays, cities and metropolitan areas are facing many mobility challenges such as traffic congestion or air pollution. We could solve some of these challenges with a better cooperation between public and private sector and better funding sources. We need local and central governments to understand the impact that the private sector will have, as well as local administrations to take the lead as local orchestrators of new ways of urban mobility services, such as connected vehicles, shared and connected vehicles, drones, among others. These services are emerging in our cities and will need to coexist and support the traditional ones.

A large majority of European citizens live in urban environments, with over 60% living in urban areas. They share their daily lives in the same space and, for mobility, they share the same infrastructure. Most European cities increasingly face problems caused by transport and traffic, where urban mobility accounts for 40% of all CO2 emissions of road transport and up to 70% of other pollutants from transport. The question of how to enhance mobility and create public realm is a common challenge to all major cities in Europe. In a world where digital disruption dominates, mobility players are not immune to its effects. Driven by such disruption, environmental and social needs, tech players, corporate venture capital firms and venture capitalists are consistently growing their investments and support in start-ups to accelerate innovation.
This panel will discuss investment trends of the European mobility start-ups and its investment landscape.
