EIT Open Day Slovenia

"Raw material needs to ensure the transition to sustainable and smart mobility", organised by EIT Urban Mobility RIS Hub Slovenia in cooperation with the EIT Raw Materials Regional Center Adria and SPIRIT Slovenia, is a conference within the framework of the INNOVEIT 2022 programme.

The event will address the key challenges and opportunities (innovative business models) for cooperation between the two sectors (raw materials and mobility) directly involved in the transition to more sustainable forms of mobility.

The European Green Deal aims to reduce GHG emissions from transport by 90% by 2050, which is why EU member states are taking steps to promote this target and the availability of sustainable alternative and intermodal transport modes for further strategic development. The integration of zero-emission vehicles into existing fleets, the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels, and associated infrastructure are just some necessary steps to achieve this. Transformation of the automotive industry through the adoption of new technologies (hydrogen, electricity, light and innovative alloys) to ensure better economic sustainability and circular development requires close collaboration between all stakeholders in the relevant industries, from the raw materials industry value chain to automotive industry suppliers that shape and determine business models within the national ecosystem.

INNOVEIT is the flagship event of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), the largest ecosystem in Europe whose goal is to strengthen and support the European innovation sphere. It is an integral part of the Horizon Europe programme, with nine Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) tackling the most pressing challenges of today: EIT Climate, EIT Digital, EIT Food, EIT Health, EIT Energy, EIT Manufacturing, EIT Raw Materials, EIT Urban Mobility and EIT Culture and Creativity.

The RIS programme (regional innovation scheme) is also strongly represented in Slovenia, whereas the purpose of which is to increase the innovation potential of individual countries. Seven of the nine representatives of the KICs are present in Slovenia. However, for the purposes of the INNOVEIT 2022 national representatives of EIT Urban Mobility RIS Hub Slovenia (Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute), EIT Raw materials (Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute, Geological Survey Of Slovenia, University of Zagreb - Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum, Bogatin d.o.o.), and the national contact point of the programme of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (SPIRIT Slovenia), are involved.

The event will be divided into the following segments, which will be conducted in a hybrid way - short lectures and interactive discussions between different experts. Abstracts of individual lectures will be included in the final conference proceedings.
