Park(ing) Day is an annual event held in various cities around the world. It is a performative, educational and protest action of citizenship, in which various entities, collectives and citizens in general, temporarily transform public parking spaces into parks, gardens and other forms of public space with the aim of demanding a model of citizenship centred on people and the environment. At EIT Urban Mobility, we believe that this initiative is highly relevant, as it encourages citizens to rethink the use of public spaces and to reclaim their streets.
EIT Urban Mobility is committed to promoting urban mobility that is sustainable, inclusive, and accessible; and Park(ing) Day is the perfect platform to achieve this. By taking part in the action, we contribute to improving the quality of life of citizens, raising awareness about the importance of public spaces, and calling for the cultural and social transformation of our cities.
Park(ing) Day is also a great opportunity to involve citizens in decision-making, as they are asked to design and create their own temporary public spaces. This will help us better understand citizens’ needs and create urban spaces that meet their needs and expectations.
