Urban Mobility Summer School

Urban Mobility Summer School: Ghent-Rennes

Project summary

From 26 June to 7 July, 2023 the Urban Mobility Summer School was held in both Belgium and France.  The two  adjacent countries hosted  students of the EIT Urban Mobility Master School, as well as external participants, at  Ghent University and the University of Rennes 1 for two weeks. Through an intensive Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) training, participants identified  challenges related to inclusion in intermodal mobility and designed innovative solutions to improve not only physical accessibility, but also information accessibility and affordability. In the first week, participants at Ghent University addressed inclusion mobility challenges provided by planning agencies, academic experts, industry partners and vulnerable end users. In the second week, at the University of Rennes 1, students designed potential business models through market and segment analysis, financial forecast technology, and Intellectual Property issues. The Urban Mobility Summer School  counted on key actors within  the consortium. These partners include, but are not limited to:  ID4MOBILITY (previously known as ID4CAR), a major player in French urban mobility; the Rennes Metropole; Keolis, Rennes’ public transport management  company; De Lijn, Flanders’  public transport operator; and the City of Ghent.

EIT Urban Mobility Summer School  aimed to ensure the fundamental right of mobility for all by fostering the deployment of novel mobility solutions designed around people’s needs and more respectful of the environment; and offering all citizens access to a new generation of clean, safe, affordable, and equitable travel options while reducing private car use (and ownership).
