SCREEN

Smart cycling infrastructure assessment

Project summary

SCREEN is all about making cycling safer and more enjoyable for everyone. By partnering with expert tech partners for infrastructure assessment and data analysis, we can identify problems and find solutions.

The SCREEN product, called VeloVision,  helps cities better assess the current state of cycling infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and provide actionable advice to enhance the cycling experience. We use computer vision technology to scan bike routes and lanes to later analyse what needs to be fixed to make cycling safer, from width and road surface quality to air quality.

Our goal is simple: make biking safer, improve how cities plan bike routes, and give them the information they need to get around on two wheels. We’re testing our ideas in Sarajevo and Area Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) to ensure they work in different infrastructures and cycling cultures.

With VeloVision, we’re pedalling towards a future where biking is more accessible, safer, and fun for everyone. Imagine smoother rides, safer streets, and more people choosing bikes over cars. That’s good for our health, our cities, and the planet. Let’s ride towards a better tomorrow together!

Project start:

1 March 2024

Budget:

€575,000

Context

Improve the evaluation of cycle paths with AI and computer vision technology to guide cities towards safer and more enjoyable cycling for all.

Challenge

Current methods for assessing cycling infrastructure are often slow and expensive. The SCREEN product, VeloVision, addresses this issue by using advanced imaging, artificial intelligence, and vision technology to provide efficient and accurate evaluations.

Expected outcome

SCREEN aims to develop an AI tool at TRL-8 called VeloVison that Integrates ROAD, City Dive, and Lanepatrol solutions to evaluate 50+ metrics on the state of your cycling infrastructure with concrete recommendations on how to make improvements.
