On March 22nd, Moove Lab, the leading mobility startup accelerator in Paris, will celebrate its 5th anniversary together with hundreds of the Paris start-ups ecosystem and mobility players attending the event ‘Autonomy Paris’. EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, a body of the European Union, will participate in both events as it acts within the mission to accelerate the transformation of urban mobility for more liveable cities.
During the anniversary event in Station F on March 22 at 18h, some renowned speakers will take their place on stage: Karima Delli, Member of the European parliament and chairwoman of the Committee of Transport and Tourism, Frédéric Mazzella, founder of the French mobility unicorn Blablacar, Fabien Derville, president of Movibia and the Decathlon group and the CEO of EIT Urban Mobility’s Maria Tsavachidis to discuss the importance of pan-European collaboration in the startup ecosystem, together with a French startup and the journalist Lionel Robert. At the Autonomy event on March 23, 3:50 PM – 4:20 PM, the EIT Urban Mobility will be hosting a debate around DataSpaces in Urban Mobility. The speakers will be Jean Melounou, Eurométropole de Strasbourg, Chargé de mission mobilités innovantes, Stefania Pesavento, FACTUAL Consulting, Lead Consultant, and Alain L’Hostis, Research Director at Université Gustave Eiffel. EIT Urban Mobility will have a booth F11 during the Autonomy Paris event.
EIT Urban Mobility and Moove Lab, a fruitful collaboration.
In September 2022, EIT Urban Mobility and Moove Lab, announced their collaboration, with the mission to build bridges between the French and the European startup ecosystems. Within this collaboration, an ‘Access to France’ programme was launched in collaboration with the Choose Paris Region and other French market experts. This allows for support to promising European mobility startups interested in expanding to France. Networking events and other business development opportunities were offered, and individual support was given to several start-ups that were identified as demonstrating impact potential.
In this collaboration, the Finnish startup Bout, an EIT Urban Mobility portfolio company, committed to making the sea and maritime locations accessible for all by finding and providing boat rides. As part of the collaboration, and within Bout’s international expansion goals, the start-up was granted access to three months free working spaces at Station F Paris, including direct access to Moove Lab network and a soft landing plan in France. During 2023 Bout will be able to offer its service to towns located along the river Seine with the objective to improve their mobility options and reduce car and other road vehicles on the city’s busy roads. Bout is also preparing the ground for river mobility in the 2024’s Olympic Games to be held in Paris.
In another examples, the software focused start-up Cezigue, also within EIT Urban Mobility’s equity portfolio, was chosen to join Moove Lab’s accelerator 10th edition. The start-up Beev, the French electric vehicle comparator coming from the Moove Lab community, received investment by EIT Urban Mobility following Moove Lab’s recommendation, and they will now be supported by a dedicated portfolio manager at EIT Urban mobility throughout their business development.
A special Masterclass will be organised at Station F on the topic of ‘Accelerate to Europe’. The programme, organised in collaboration with Google France, INCO Ventures, WeGrow and other leading French industry experts, will host eight of EIT Urban Mobility’s portfolio companies, coming from Sweden, Ireland, UK, France, Greece, and Spain.
Since 2019, EIT Urban Mobility has supported 239 start-ups through its programmes, out of which it has invested in 80 ventures from 24 countries, 29% of which female-led. In addition to acceleration programme, pilot opportunities and funding, the organisation also provides its portfolio start-ups with post-investment support through exclusive access to know-how, expertise, funding, and technical business development support adapted to their needs.
Maria Tsavachidis, CEO of EIT Urban Mobility will be accompanied by others team members, including Keren Beit-Cohen, Strategic Alliances Head, Maria Paula Caycedo, Head of Innovation Hub South, Jordi Casas, City Development Manager and Matteo Consonni, Investment and Portfolio Manager.
