Barcelona City Council reaffirms its commitment to sustainability with the TACTIC project

The TACTIC project, co-financed by EIT Urban Mobility, promotes the distribution of goods using electric vehicles. The pilot test of the TACTIC project was carried out at Mercat de Provençals, where users can shop online through the mercatsaunclic app and select the sustainable delivery option during checkout.

The TACTIC project, co-financed by EIT Urban Mobility, transforms urban logistics with greener last-mile solutions. With Barcelona and the Métropole du Grand Paris as pilot cities, TACTIC promotes sustainable mobility and supports local commerce by improving air quality and reducing congestion.

Mercatsaunclic is a project by the Barcelona City Council that digitizes the city’s markets, making it easier for locals to access fresh and local products, fostering a stronger connection between citizens and their community markets.

TACTIC expands this offering by incorporating sustainable delivery options, encouraging citizens to adopt more responsible consumption habits. Currently, customers at Mercat de Provençals, the pilot market for TACTIC, can choose green deliveries with zero-emission vehicles, promoting a positive change in the city’s air quality.

In addition, two new charging points have been installed at Mercat de Provençals: one for the electric van designated for market vendors and another for public use, encouraging the adoption of electric and sustainable mobility.

In the Métropole du Grand Paris, a charging point, an electric van, and a cargo bike have been provided for vendors and residents of Rueil-Malmaison, a suburb of Paris. Since the start of the project, the electric van has recorded over 8,300 reservations and travelled more than 187,000 km throughout the large metropolitan area.

The project organised an event on 17 September in Barcelona, which included a live demonstration and a press conference with the participation of the project partners: FACTUAL Consulting, Hermeneus World, the Barcelona City Council, VANaPEDAL, Métropole du Grand Paris, and Clem, along with EIT Urban Mobility, the project’s driving force. The initiative aims to inspire other cities and citizens to join the shift towards a greener and more responsible future.
