EIT Urban Mobility facilitates testing and evaluation of new mobility solutions in living labs. Living labs are sites where citizens are engaged in the design, testing, co-creation and adoption of new solutions. The process fosters a multidisciplinary approach that draws on expertise and experience from several sectors and ensures that private, public, and research stakeholders collaborate and invest time and human resources in the project.
During this Mobility Talks episode, we dive into Living Labs on urban mobility: Many living lab experiments on urban mobility already exist. Are these successful? What methodologies are there? What are pre-requisites to make these powerful innovation ecosystems work and drive the transformation for urban mobility?
Different experts will share their knowledge, insights, and experience regarding living labs in general, and specifically those on urban mobility. They will also show us the roadblocks/difficulties and advantages/success factors of the living lab approach to transform urban mobility and make our cities more liveable, safer, healthier and more inclusive.
Meet our speakers
Janne Rinne, Project Manager at Forum Virium Helsinki.
Janne Rinne works as a project manager at Forum Virium Helsinki, the innovation company of the city of Helsinki.
Currently, his main project is Mobility Lab Helsinki, which promotes smooth, safe and sustainable urban mobility through piloting and experimentation. One of the Mobility Lab’s focus areas is better use of data and digital twins
Julienne Chen, Citizen Engagement Manager at EIT Urban Mobility.
Julienne Chen is the citizen engagement manager at EIT Urban Mobility, the European initiative supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology to facilitate the development of innovative transportation solutions.
There, Julienne works to bring together cities, industry partners and people to collectively envision and shape future mobility.
She started as an urban planner before transitioning to City Hall, joining the Mayor’s innovation teams in Los Angeles and Louisville, Kentucky. Then, she spent four years in Singapore as a research fellow and, most recently, she worked at a start-up in Belgium called CitizenLab.
Wim De Kinderen, Programme Director European Affairs at Brainport Development.
Wim De Kinderen is employed within the Brainport Eindhoven EU Office in Brussels, representing the City of Eindhoven, Brainport Development and other economic stakeholders. In this role, he is responsible for policy lobbying, networking/communication and project development.
He started as the Province of Antwerp RDA’s European Social Fund expert for the Objective 2 region ‘Kempen’, and later he worked as director of the Regional Socio-Economic Committee for the same ‘Kempen’ region.
In between, he has been an advisor to the Belgian federal government on socio-economic and budget policy topics.
Liat Shaham, Head of Business Development and Partnerships of CityZone
Liat joined CityZone, the open innovation hub and sandbox of the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, on October 2021. There, she helps to create partnerships and strategic alliances with entities in its ecosystem, and helps CityZone’s portfolio companies form business relationships.
Liat’s former experience includes over 15 years of economic roles in Government as head of the Israeli Economic Mission in Spain and in Mexico, and head of the Asia-Pacific Department in the Israeli Ministry of Economy in Jerusalem.
Liat holds a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Television Studies, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
