The AI Pedestrian Crossing Accessibility (AIPECRA) project aims to improve the accessibility and safety of pedestrian infrastructure in Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain, through advanced AI technology. The core objective is to create a detailed and accurate inventory of pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, and intersections, ensuring data integration into the city’s Geographic Information System (GIS). This will facilitate targeted interventions to improve pedestrian infrastructure, particularly benefiting senior citizens and those with reduced mobility.
Led by LOKI S.r.l., an Italian startup specializing in infrastructure safety solutions, the team will work closely with local government officials, urban planners, disability advocacy groups, and the broader community to ensure that the improvements meet residents’ actual needs.
AIPECRA addresses significant gaps in Las Rozas’ current pedestrian infrastructure data. The lack of detailed information on crosswalk conditions, ramps, slopes, and obstacles hampers efforts to create a safe and accessible environment for all residents. By employing AI-driven technology, the project seeks to provide comprehensive and actionable data to support improvements to infrastructure.
The project will begin in August 2024 in Las Rozas de Madrid, aiming to complete a comprehensive analysis by mid-December 2024. The phases will include analysis, system development, live testing, and full-scale implementation. Collaboration with local disability advocacy groups, urban planners, and municipal authorities will ensure that any improvements are aligned with community needs.
The project will give priority to flexibility and responsiveness to user needs. We will iterate AIPECRA based on stakeholder feedback, ensuring our solutions effectively address accessibility challenges in Las Rozas. Our adaptive approach will allow us to refine and optimize the system continuously, meeting the community’s evolving needs.
The AIPECRA project exemplifies a scalable and sustainable approach to urban mobility, utilising advanced technology to make cities safer and more accessible for all residents.
