CLEAR: City Liveability by Redesign - second year

Transition experiments for improved city liveability

Project summary

Launch real-life transition experiments in urban streets by means of small, tangible interventions, in combination with alternative mobility concepts

CLEAR aims to share a methodology for “transition experiments”, positioning low-cost, tactical actions in streets and public spaces within a strategic scope on sustainable urban mobility. COVID-19, as a global time of emergency, means public space gains new uses and adapted mobility patterns emerge, as cities are called to take extraordinary adaptive measures through real-life urban space transitions. CLEAR will continue to inject new life into city street experiments interrupted by the pandemic, combining with innovative and experimental tools for (digital) citizen participation and collecting data.

Project start:

1 January 2021

Budget:

€709,350

Countries

belgium, italy, spain

Context

CLEAR will promote development of higher quality public spaces which in turn develop local microeconomics, and improved life quality of citizens.

Challenge

Through its transition experiments, CLEAR actively tries to shift citizens to more active modes of transport and toward improvements to the urban landscape.

Expected outcome

Expert tool with an inventory of context-sensitive urban design scenarios and effective processes of citizen and stakeholder participation.
