SmartDrive AI is a cutting-edge technology designed to increase road safety by improving the efficiency and accuracy of accident reporting and providing decision-makers with valuable insights. The project involves Graz Linien, the public transport company in Graz, and Mapular, a Berlin-based startup specialising in geodata technologies.
The inspiration for the project came from the need to improve the outdated and inefficient methods of accident documentation currently in use, which rely heavily on analogue forms. This traditional approach slows data processing and is unable to effectively analyse and identify accident black spots, which makes it difficult to implement proactive safety measures and optimise operational decisions.
SmartDrive AI will solve this problem by digitising accident reporting and enabling drivers to report incidents in real time with GPS-based location tagging and photo uploads. The platform overcomes the language barrier by providing multilingual interfaces. It also integrates external data, such as weather conditions, to provide drivers with alerts on sensitive areas and prevent future accidents. After reporting an accident, drivers are guided through an intuitive feedback process designed to provide comprehensive support.
SmartDrive AI provides city authorities with a comprehensive dashboard that offers real-time insights into accident patterns, hotspots, and predictive models for future accidents. This data-driven approach enables informed decision-making and resource allocation, ultimately improving road safety and operational efficiency.
The project will take place in 2024 in Graz, Austria. Graz Linien drivers will be equipped with tablets to facilitate real-time reporting and data collection. The platform will be tested on two tram lines and six bus routes to collect user feedback and monitor safety improvements.
SmartDrive AI will reduce accidents, increase road safety and optimise urban mobility by addressing the critical need for efficient accident documentation and proactive safety measures, ultimately contributing to a safer and more efficient transport system in Graz.
