- The project aims to contribute to the development of the European Mobility Data Space (EMDS) and it is built upon the groundwork laid by the preparatory action PrepDSpace4Mobility and will run for 36 months.
- The project is led by ACATECH. EIT Urban Mobility is one of the partners of the project, together with more than 40 European entities.
- The project will kick off during TMWC in the session “Data Revolution in Motion: deployEMDS Transforming Mobility”.
Barcelona, 30 October 2023 – In an era where digitalisation is reshaping industries and societies at an unprecedented pace, the European Union (EU) continues to champion initiatives that drive innovation, competitiveness, and digital transformation. Among its latest endeavours is the deployEMDS project, an ambitious and forward-looking venture that propels Europe to the forefront of the global digital landscape. Funded by the EU, this project holds immense potential to revolutionise how we engage with technology and harness its benefits. The deployEMDS project wants to develop innovative services and applications and support policymaking by making data available, shareable, and reusable for sustainable urban mobility indicators (SUMI) and traffic and travel information in urban and regional areas.
The project aims to contribute to the development of the European Mobility Data Space (EMDS), as outlined in the Data Strategy and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy of the European Union. EMDS will be designed and operated in full compliance with existing EU legislation related to mobility and transport. Building upon the groundwork laid by the preparatory action PrepDSpace4Mobility, funded under the Digital Europe Programme, the deployEMDS project’s primary objective is to facilitate creating and deploying an operational Data Space. This Data Space will enable participants to provide data in machine-readable formats and facilitate secure and controlled data sharing. The project will run for 36 months.
The project will actively support real-life implementation projects across nine cities and regions, including Barcelona (ES), Île-de-France (FR), Milan (IT), Lisbon (PT), Flanders (VLO), Sofia (BG), Stockholm (SE), Tampere (FI), and Hamburg (DE). These initiatives will focus on developing innovative services and applications while assisting in policymaking by sharing and reusing data. This will be accomplished using a shared technical infrastructure and governance mechanisms.
Within the deployEMDS project, EIT Urban Mobility will work with other partners to implement common governance mechanisms and develop tools for legal compliance. The project supports policymaking by contributing to the availability, sharing, and re-use of data for Sustainable Urban Mobility Indicators (SUMI) and traffic and travel information in urban and regional areas.
The DeployEMDS project represents a significant step forward in Europe’s quest for digital transformation, innovation, and competitiveness. As the EU continues to invest in this ambitious initiative, the digital future of Europe is poised to be brighter, more secure, and more resilient than ever before. By fostering technological advancements, nurturing digital sovereignty, and promoting economic growth, deployEMDS sets the stage for a more prosperous and technologically advanced Europe in the years to come. The future of mobility demands fresh and innovative solutions that enhance our urban experiences. But these solutions are only possible with secure, transparent, and efficient data sharing. In a world where information is king, data sharing is the catalyst for groundbreaking innovations that will shape the way we move in cities.
Data Revolution in Motion: deployEMDS Transforming Mobility
The kick-off session of the project will take place during the Tomorrow. Mobility World Congress in Barcelona
(07 November, 12:30 – 13:15, Tomorrow Mobility room)
Supported by EU legislation and the Digital Europe Programme, deployEMDS will pioneer data spaces in 9 regions. With 20+ use cases, this initiative will enhance secure data sharing for a trusted European data ecosystem. deployEMDS Open Session will kick off the initiative and will invite the audience to explore the future of mobility data. Experts from across the public and private domains will provide insights from real-life projects using transformative concepts. A key discussion topic will be how data reshapes sustainable mobility and what the data space concept means for urban data management.
