In what normally takes two days to install, a complete charging facility of seven charging points has been installed in Gothenburg in four hours. Waybler Curb is the first commercial installation of its kind – a new solution for installing charging boxes where the electric cable is pulled through stones instead of underground. This makes the installation significantly faster and costs less to complete.
Waybler Curb is an innovation from Waybler that facilitates widespread electrification and lowers thresholds for people to charge where they live or work. As a tech company based in Stockholm, Waybler develops cutting edge EV charging solutions – from high quality chargers to charging services for housing and businesses. The company was founded in 2015 and has now 20+ employees in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Frankfurt.
The installation presents a flexible and alternative way to install charging boxes in places where several people need to charge. Waybler Curb pulls the electric cable through a patented cable block that can then be connected in parallel between the charging boxes, in doing so, removes the need for labour intensive earthwork and therefore time and cost. This also eliminates a number of problems that can arise during excavation such as difficulties with ground conditions, damage to existing installations and the need to divert traffic.
Filip Aglöv, product owner for Waybler Curb: “The whole purpose of Curb is to facilitate the installation work. Excavation is riskier, more expensive and takes longer. The fact that we managed to install a ready-to-use facility in under four hours was strong evidence that this can facilitate many electricians and others installing charging boxes.”
Head Investment & Portfolio Team Manager and Senior Investment & Asset Management for the Nordic/Baltic regions at EIT Urban Mobility, Peter Vest said: “Waybler Curb was a driving reasoning behind EIT Urban Mobility’s initial investment in Waybler in 2022. Since then, the issues relating to charging infrastructure have only become more pronounced as the adoption of EV cars continues. To be able to rollout charging infrastructure at minimal cost in any location will play a significant role in electrification in the coming years and dramatically ease the concern people have about the current lack of infrastructure.”
EIT Urban Mobility invested in Waybler in 2022 as part of Financial Support to Startups Open Call. The objective of this call is to provide hands-on support to selected investees in driving their growth, gaining visibility and strengthening national and international market position. Successful applicants are ones with an innovative product/service contributing to at least one of the EIT Urban Mobility core topics. With 12 key topics, in the case of Waybler it is the electrification of transport which provided the definitive alignment.
