About Horizon Lab

Horizon Lab is specifically involved in calls under Horizon Europe, Digital Europe, and Connecting Europe that address EIT Urban Mobility’s mission. Operating under the EIT Urban Mobility Foundation, the non-profit arm of EIT Urban Mobility, Horizon Lab’s activities include proposal development, consortium building, and project implementation.

Since its founding in 2021, Horizon Lab has used EIT Urban Mobility’s extensive network of cities, industry, and research institutions to maximise the reach and impact of its project participations. The range of activities offered by Horizon Lab include

  • Communication and dissemination,
  • Stakeholder engagement and co-creation processes,
  • Exploitation of results, including commercial exploitation and policy recommendations, and
  • Replication and upscaling of results, including capacity building, knowledge transfer, and peer-to-peer learning.

All of Horizon Lab’s activities complement the organisation’s mission to create more liveable places, tackle urban challenges and accelerate change.

How Horizon Lab operates

Horizon Lab scans and pre-identifies calls in European funding programmes like Horizon Europe (HE), Digital Europe (DE) and Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) that are aligned with EIT Urban Mobility’s strategic objectives. Relevant calls are shared with EIT Urban Mobility’s ecosystem. The scope of Horizon Lab’s engagement is based on the category of the pre-identified call. Have a look at the role of Horizon Lab for each of the categories below.

Categories of Horizon Lab engagements

  • CATEGORY A: EIT Urban Mobility and partners will submit jointly, in an arrangement in which EIT Urban Mobility is an active partner;
  • CATEGORY B: EIT Urban Mobility supports the creation of new consortia and developing concepts for proposals, but has no direct involvement;
  • CATEGORY C: EIT Urban Mobility provides a letter of support, but is not involved in the project or proposal development.
