European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is an EU body created by the European Union in 2008 to strengthen Europe’s ability to innovate. The EIT is an integral part of Horizon Europe, the EU’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.  The EIT supports the development of dynamic, long-term European partnerships among leading companies, research institutes and higher education. These partnerships are called EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KIC) and each is dedicated to finding solutions to a specific global challenge. EIT Urban Mobility is one of nine EIT Innovation Communities initiated by the EIT.

EIT Urban Mobility Association

This entity with its members from industry, universities, research centres and cities is the sole shareholder of the KIC Legal Entity. Its General Assembly, the highest decision-making body, approves strategic plans and appoints the Supervisory Board of the KIC Legal Entity. The Managing Board of the Association is the managing body that directs the day-to-day activities and operations of the Association.

KIC Legal Entity (KIC LE)

The Knowledge and Innovation Community Legal Entity (KIC LE) is a company fully owned by the Association and primarily financially supported by EIT, the KIC LE manages funding and operations in line with the Strategic Agenda. It’s the main interlocutor with the EIT and other EIT KICs. The KIC LE is overseen by a Supervisory Board, which delegates daily management to the Management Team led by the CEO.

 Innovation Hubs

The Innovation Hubs, also known as Co-location Centres (CLCs), are companies fully owned by the KIC LE. The Innovation Hubs promote collaboration among key stakeholders and serve as focal points for knowledge exchange and innovation across Europe. The hub strategy covers five regions: North, Central, West, East and South.

The Foundation

Established in 2022, the EIT Urban Mobility Foundation supports educational and innovation initiatives, specifically the Master School and Horizon Lab, furthering the organisation’s mission. The Foundation is a non-profit organisation directed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the Supervisory Board of the KIC LE.
